"FALSOS POSITIVOS" this Friday

"False Positives" are deaths attributed to the clashes between the Colombian army and illegal armed groups paramilitary. The work of Freddy Osorio is elemental, expressive, and significantly direct. Conceptual through its realization, the work develops a journalistic social function, a narrative disclosure sample this brings a topic of much interest, present and controversy,

Osorio creates a discussion and opinion that the viewer sees in motivation, while finding a way to search for the truth.

Christie's to Sell Dennis Hopper's Art Collection - ARTINFO.com

Christie's to Sell Dennis Hopper's Art Collection - ARTINFO.com

I wouldn't past it that this would put a shot into the the arm of the Art Market being such a diverse and wide spreading collection. The man had such love and eye for the work, it's amazing.

ARTLURKER › 20(12): Twenty Twelve at Miami Art Space

Very strong show at a great space, and well shown. The concept was a little loose, and some of the work fell a bit flat for me, just because of very little personality to it, but the majority of the show had a very great presence.

Choe vs. Britto

To paraphrase a great man, “Art is nothing but Bitches and Money!”

Even though these articles in Juxtapoz and and the Miami New Times are both old news right now, being from last month, I thought it was a bit kismet that both came to my attention at the same time, and I focused on the differences between David Choe and Romero Britto.

WHA?

Yeah, I know. Looking at these two, Choe a constant artist, L.A. Born and Bred man of action, living on the very edge of most norms, socially, spiritually, and even physically, striving for more, and Britto which could be the poster child with everything that is wrong with art and well, Miami, to a certain degree.

Both come from humble beginning and both are not humble in their work. Troubled pasts haunt both men, their motives are known and worn on the shoulder but widely different, and both take the eye somewhere; Choe to himself, Britto to some vapid space he wants to convince you is good... or into a wall.

I could go on and on about this, but really I'd rather for you, dear reader, have a chance to read and get into these two, and see what I'm seeing; two sides of the same coin, of two artist that could be possibly close on paper, but vary in such a way that it's mind boggling.

Unfortunately, Miami got Tails, and has to deal with Britto. Luckily, we have some hope and guys like Choe are out there, giving us hope that something beautiful can come from shit.

Finger painting on the iPad

Finger painting on the iPad Drawn! The Illustration and Cartooning Blog
An amazing show of what a new interface like IPAD could be for an artist. Even though there something to be said of the tactile feel of a brush or a piece of charcoal, I don't this is any less of tool than those of a traditional way. They're tools, and nothing can be said much of tool other than it's use, and of it's merit, only what has been done, can be analyzed.
We had something like that with one of the Artist. Juan Patino, at our weekly Figure Drawing Sessions the image was done on his Wacom and Laptop. Can one really argue about a tool then? Not really

Figure Drawing Session No.4, every Tuesday

Date:
Tuesday, July 6, 2010
Time:
7:00pm - 10:00pm
Location:
CS GALLERY, 787 NE 125th STREET NORTH MIAMI, FL 33161

Description

CS Gallery is hosting Figure Drawings Session with a live Nude Model every Tuesday night, from 7 PM to 10PM.

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=109928202390421

The model will be seated or standing and we will also use some props and such. If you any ideas or props to use for poses, please suggest and/or bring them in.

CS Gallery
787 NE 125th STREET
NORTH MIAMI, FL 33161
(Right in front of the MOCA and North Miami City Hall)

http://www.chirinossanchez.com/

This is a great way for Illustrators or Artists wanting to give themselves a bit of artistic exercise or for the drawing enthusiast who needs just want to spend the nights, getting an Art work out.

We we will have easels and some chairs to use, but you have to bring your own art supplies or whatever else you may need to draw/paint and material to draw on.

We will start with some 5 second poses, then some one minute posed and so on until we get to a 45 minute pose. There will be a break in the middle.

This is a figure Drawing Session, not a class, in a way. We will not be teaching, this is just a chance to work with a model and get some practice in, but we will be available for critique or to hang out after for pointers and some critique with everyone. This is a good chance to meet fellow artist in a laid back atmosphere and get creative juices flowing.

ATTENTION, LOWER PRICE:
There is now$15.00 fee per session. We heard what people were saying and we figured with the turn out, it would be better. We hate to fluctuate the price like this, but we need to cover expenses with the model and still have something for the space. This is to help raise money for the gallery and to pay the model. We are planning to have this and other figure drawing sessions every week, and willing to discount for groups and/or continued attendance.

LIMITED SPACE!
We really thought we would fit more, but after setting up we can only fit, comfortably, about 7-8 people, so please RSVP as soon as possible.

NOTE:
Please, if you RSVP that you are attending please do not fake later and not show up, as space is limited and we don't want to exclude anyone.

Also this is the last session we will have with our Model Ruthie, as she will be leaving us for a while to work on a musical production! Good Luck, Ruthie!
